Boston Marathon Team Hoyt – Last Race

The driving force behind LivOn supplements is determination and the desire to experience an improved quality of life.  Determination and drive combined with teamwork, fitness and nutrition has kept Team Hoyt moving forward for 34 years. Now, a force we have admired is retiring.

The 2014 Boston Marathon is Team Hoyt’s last. Dick Hoyt, 73, and his son, Rick, 52, have competed in over 1,000 races, including marathons, triathlons, and Ironman competitions. That figure alone is staggering, but what is astounding is that Rick Hoyt, one half of this dynamic athletic team, has cerebral palsy.

At birth, Rick’s umbilical cord became twisted around his neck, blocking oxygen and leaving his brain unable to send correct messages to his muscles. Doctors encouraged the Hoyts to institutionalize Rick, informing them he would never live a “normal” life, much less go on to compete in athletics.  So, how does this team finish all these races? Rick’s father has been behind him, literally pushing him, every step of the way.

Dick, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard and Rick, a graduate of Boston University, ran their first race in 1977. During those first miles, Rick felt as though he wasn’t handicapped—he was simply one of the runners. With this realization, Dick started training. Rick attended public school and was unable to train daily, so Dick ran every day pushing a bag of cement in the wheelchair. Dick improved his fitness and, while pushing his son, was able to obtain a personal record of a 5k in 17 minutes…. Fast, at any age.

That was just the beginning. In triathlons, an endurance competition that involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances,  Dick pulls Rick in a boat with a bungee cord attached to a vest while he swims, pedals a special two-seater bicycle, and then pushes Rick in his custom made running chair. Every step of the way, Team Hoyt meets the challenge together.

The Hoyts, who reside in Massachusetts, did not finish the 2013 Boston Marathon. They had almost a mile to go when bombs exploded near the finish line. They were not injured. This year team Hoyt will run the Boston Marathon, Rick’s favorite race, for the final time.

LivOn Labs salutes Team Hoyt.

Treatment for Allergies

Spring is here! That means pollen is just outside your door. So, what can you do to protect yourself from sneezing, congestion, cough and runny eyes while avoiding nasty side effects of allergy medications?

Here are some of the best, all-natural, easy-to-implement tips that we have found.

  1. Support Your Immune System
Supplement with Probiotics and of course, Lypo-Spheric™ Vitamin C to give your immune system the support it needs to combat allergens and the histamine that leads to a runny nose and excess mucus.
  2. Avoid Allergens
It sounds obvious, but a great way to avoid allergy symptoms is to avoid seasonal allergens. To minimize the time you spend suffering through allergies:

    • Keep the doors and windows of your house and car closed
    • Run the air conditioner on “recirculate” so that you are not bringing in pollen-riddled outside air
    • If you are outside for an extended period of time, shower and change clothes as soon as you return indoors… Sending all that pesky pollen down the drain.
    • Same goes for pets…. Pollen can come indoors on pet fur and be deposited all around your home. Try to bathe Fido more often than usual during allergy season. Or, at least keep him off the furniture.
    • Leave your shoes at the door during pollen season… No sense in tracking allergens inside.
    • Limit your time outdoors when pollen counts are highest.
  3. Watch Your Diet
During allergy season, inflammation can occur while your body is fending off antigens and your digestive system can be sensitive. Do your best to minimize your intake of foods that may result in inflammation, like sugary treats, fried foods and anything that’s been processed and packaged. Keep a food diary to help pinpoint any flare ups… Remember to read those labels! Unhealthy ingredients can lurk in seemingly “healthy” foods.
  4. Try Acupuncture
This traditional practice in Chinese medicine has quite the following. With acupuncture, very fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body to rebalance energy and, according to some, minimize allergy symptoms.
  5. Rinse Away Allergens In Your Nasal Passages
Mix a half teaspoon or table salt into lukewarm water to dissolve. With your head over the sink and slightly tilted to one side, put the solution in a cupped hand and spill into one nostril, allowing it to drain out the other. Then repeat on the other side, tilting in the opposite direction. When finished, gently blow out of each nostril to clear them completely.Although a little messy, this is a great way to rid your nasal passages of intruders.

While none of these options is an instant fix, when used together they can make allergy season a little more bearable and can be a suitable treatment for allergies.

What are some of the benefits of B Complex Vitamins?

B complex vitamins are an important group of water-soluble vitamins that support cell metabolism and other vital body functions, including the nervous system, the digestion and the production of red blood cells. Vitamin B complex includes all the water-soluble vitamins except vitamin C. Various other vitamins and nutritional components are often included as part of a B-complex vitamin supplement. A multivitamin containing B complex is a highly recommended supplement to maintain overall health.

The B Vitamins

Discovery of the B vitamins and their importance to health has led to major breakthroughs in healthcare. Among the historic importance of Vitamin B complex is the role of B vitamins in preventing birth defects. B vitamins are also necessary for optimal nervous functions, food metabolism, and healthy hair, nails and skin. Vitamin B complex is vital for most essential body functions, down to the cellular level.

Healthy Pregnancy

Spinal bifida and anencephaly are birth defects in which the fetal nervous system does not develop properly. A deficiency of folic acid (vitamin B9) in the mother was found to be related to the occurrence of these defects. Since that discovery, the USDA has required folic acid to be added to most enriched breads and other grain products. Today, the incidence of folic acid deficiency and of these birth defects has dropped dramatically.

Healthy Blood Sugar Levels

People with blood sugar imbalances are often found to be deficient in thiamine (vitamin B1). Thiamine is important for the metabolism of carbohydrates, and may help regulate blood sugar levels in the body. Benfotiamine – a fat soluble derivative of Thiamine – is especially helpful in protecting the body against high blood sugar levels.

Healthy Hair, Skin and Nails

Vitamins B5 and B6 have been shown to aid memory and concentration by reducing high levels of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is a substance that is normally converted to protein, and its accumulation in the blood is toxic to healthy brain function. Vitamin B-complex is often used to help prevent anxiety, depression and cognitive decline because B vitamins aid in normal hormonal functioning.

Nervous System Functions

Vitamins B5 and B6 have been shown to aid memory and concentration by reducing high levels of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is a substance that is normally converted to protein, and its accumulation in the blood is toxic to healthy brain function. Vitamin B-complex is often used to help prevent anxiety, depression and cognitive decline because B vitamins aid in normal hormonal functioning.

Digestive System

Vitamin B-complex is essential to proper digestion. Deficiency of vitamins B1, B6 and B7 (Biotin) can impair absorption of nutrients. Vitamin B6 in particular has been shown to promote vitamin absorption in the digestive system. The body produces energy from food through cell metabolism, and even a moderate deficiency of vitamins B1, B6 and B7 impairs energy production and can result in fatigue, irritability and weakness.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Because of the role that vitamin B-complex plays in hormonal functioning, the tension produced by hormonal fluctuations in women’s regular cycles can be helped by supplementation of B vitamins.

Heart Disease

As part of a well-balanced diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol, Folic Acid, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 may reduce the risk of vascular disease. However, the FDA evaluated this claim and found that, while it is known that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol reduce the risk of heart disease and other vascular diseases, the evidence in support of the claim is inconclusive.

B Complex Vitamins and Nutrition

A diet rich in whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables will supply a healthy amount of B vitamins. Vitamin B12 is the only B vitamin that is not available from plants.

Good sources for B vitamins include whole grains, potatoes, bananas, beans and lentils, chili peppers and molasses. Fermented foods, including tempeh and dark beer, are also rich in B vitamins. Yeast, both nutritional yeast and brewer’s yeast, is high in B vitamins. Turkey, tuna and liver are among the animal proteins high in B vitamins.

  • Lentils and legumes, dark green vegetables, eggs, fish and poultry are high in Vitamin B1.
  • Green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and dairy products are good sources of Vitamin B2.
  • Salmon, tuna and white-meat chicken are high in vitamin B3. So are beans and lentils.
  • Look to mushrooms, broccoli, yogurt, avocados and legumes for vitamin B5.
  • Vitamin B6 is found in high concentration in animal protein and dairy products.
  • Vitamin B7 is found in a wide range of foods. Eat a well-balanced diet to obtain this vitamin. Vitamin B7 deficiency is rare.
  • Folic acid is naturally available in green leafy vegetables, other fruits and vegetables and dried beans.
  • Vitamin B12 is available from animal and dairy products.

B Vitamin Supplements

Vitamin supplements are not a replacement for a well-balanced diet, but rather a way to ensure that all vitamin needs are being met.  The best way to get your B vitamins is through a carefully balanced diet and a complete Vitamin B-complex supplement.

Celebrating 10 Years of Cutting-Edge Science, Quality and Service

best liposomal supplements

10 Years…. Wow! Time flies when you’re helping others and doing what you love.

We started this journey to improve your health, as well as our own, a decade ago. This important milestone is a time to reflect – Where We’ve Been, Where We Are, and Where We’re Headed.

Where We’ve Been – Life-Saving Discovery

We created a new, powerful delivery method for nutritional supplements. This discovery was born out of a desperate, personal need to save the company founder’s own life. After years of trial and error, LivOn developed a product – Lypo-Spheric™ Vitamin C – that was (and still is) far better than any other Vitamin C supplement.

Where We Are – Grateful

Each day we receive letters from people all over the world detailing how Lypo-Spheric™ products have lead them to healthier lives, cured what ailed them and in several cases, saved lives. We knew this was possible with the right formula and that is why we never gave up on our mission to deliver high-performance, life-changing supplements. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to improve countless lives through our research, products and customer service.

Where We’re Going – New Products & Lower Prices

We have added two new products to the Lypo-Spheric™ line: R-ALA (R-Alpha Lipoic Acid) and B Complex Plus.

We perfected the formula for two, customer-requested products, R-ALA and B Complex Plus. Each Lypo-Spheric™ formula spends at least 2 years in research and development, with formulators who have over 25 years of experience in Liposomal Encapsulation Technology (LET). This may be longer than most liposomal products spend in R&D, but we know this is how long it takes to properly monitor and test the stability of a good formula. We thank you for your patience and know that you will be just as pleased with the new products as we are.

We’re Lowering Our Prices

As the demand for Lypo-Spheric™ products has grown, we are giving back to you, by lowering our prices. Many companies focused purely on profits would argue that with demand at a high, now is the time to raise the price.

LivOn has never been a profit-hungry company. Sure, we need to keep the doors open and ensure our team can provide for their families, and we do, but the goal of Lypo-Spheric™ products is to help you live the best, most fulfilling life you can. So, if we are able to pass along cost-savings garnered from producing more product to meet demand, that’s just what we will do. Quantity-based discounts are out. Lower prices, every day, are in.

We’re Looking Forward to the Next Ten

The past ten years would not have been possible without our loyal customers.

Thanks to you, we have changed lives, selling over 2.3 million cartons of Lypo-Spheric™ Vitamin C in over 20 countries and counting. People everywhere depend on the unparalleled benefits of LivOn’s Lypo-Spheric™ products.
