Important Role of Vitamin C

Important Roles of Vitamin C

Many people assume Vitamin C is only required in tiny amounts; just enough to prevent scurvy. After all, this Vitamin C-deficiency disease spawned the chemical name ascorbate for Vitamin C. Ascorbate literally means “against scurvy.” Were this its only function, tiny amounts of Vitamin C would be sufficient for most people on the planet. But, there’s vastly more it can do.

Vitamin C is required in many essential metabolic processes – two of which we have highlighted below: Collagen Synthesis and Calcium Incorporation.

Collagen Synthesis

Vitamin C is essential for the synthesis and maintenance of collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body. Collagen comprises about 25% to 35% of the total protein content in the body. Its strong, connective, elongated fibrils are found in skin, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, bone, blood vessels, the intestines, and the discs between spinal vertebrae. It is also found in the cornea and in muscle tissue.

  • Vitamin C helps protect the skin by promoting the production and migration of fibroblasts that support normal wound healing.
  • VitaminC protects against skin wrinkles seen in premature aging.
  • Increased VitaminC uptake by vascular smooth muscle cells increases the synthesis and maturation of Type I (aka Type 1) collagen.  Type I collagen accounts for about 90% of the body’s total collagen content.
  • High concentrations of VitaminC stimulate synthesis of Type IV collagen, which has important filtration characteristics in the kidney, the blood-brain barrier, and the arterial lining .

Promotes Calcium Incorporation into Bone Tissue

The formation and maintenance of quality, high-density bone material requires Vitamin C. Vitamin C promotes assimilation of calcium into the bone, protects against leaching of calcium out of the bones, and fights the oxidative stress that works against assimilation.

  • Vitamin C stimulates the formation of the cells that incorporate calcium into bone tissue (osteoblasts).
  • VitaminC inhibits the development of cells that dissolve calcium out of bone tissues (osteoclasts).
  • As a powerful antioxidant, VitaminC fights oxidative stress in bone tissues.
  • Collagen cross-linking, required to form the dense matrix for optimal bone strength, requires Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is essential to numerous functions inside the body. We’ve just outlined two more reasons to get your daily dose!

    • Felipe Gonzales says:

Thank you Blake for your service and we completely understand about the cost savings, we are just glad you are taking your nutrients the Lypo-Spheric way.

  3. Dr Jim Gover, Naples Florida says:

I’ve been taking 3,000 of your Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C and 3,000 mg of Nature-Made Vitamin C tablets daily. Am hoping it will help my arthritis and osteoporosis.

I’m spacing the doses over the day, and stirring it a bit into room-temperature water — does the “empty stomach” mean no orange juice or coffee, etc ?

How do you suggesting using your product for facial skin improvement ? Mixing it a bit with water, or something else, at bedtime ?

    Thanks !

    Jim

    • Felipe Gonzales says:

Thank you for the excellent questions, Jim! Taking the product on an empty stomach helps it to be absorbed more quickly, but you will still get the full effect of the product if you take it near a light meal or after drinking beverages like orange juice or coffee.

For facial skin improvement, we recommend taking 1 packet, 1-3 times per day. You can take the product with water, just as you normally do. A recent clinical study with the Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C showed that a daily dose of just 1,000 mg (1 packet) per day can lead to an average 35% increase in skin firmness and 8% reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. A daily dose of 3,000 mg (3 packets) per day can lead to an impressive 61% increase in skin firmness and a 14% reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

How does Liposomal Vitamin C compare with Intravenous Vitamin C?

    • Felipe Gonzales says:

We have not done any formal studies to compare the efficacy of liposomal Vitamin C with intravenous Vitamin C at this time. Dr. Thomas Levy has suggested that in some cases, 5 grams of liposomal Vitamin C can be as clinically effective as 50 grams of intravenous Vitamin C. He has made this observation after witnessing numerous cases where liposomal Vitamin C was administered in lieu of, or in addition to, intravenous Vitamin C. This observation, however, has not been tested in a controlled setting.

  6. Bert Clements says:

using Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C will one have any side effects when used with other medications. As I’m taking tablets for a heart condition?

    • Felipe Gonzales says:

Hi Bert, While the Lypo-Spheric™ products contain well-researched nutrients that are taken by millions of people around the world, it is possible they could interfere with certain medications.

For example, vitamin C in any form can lessen the blood-thinning effects of Coumadin or Warfarin. We urge anybody on either of these medications to supplement vitamin C and any other antioxidants under the guidance of their physicians only, so that the desired prolongation of prothrombin time can be achieved over time.

If you are on prescription medication, we recommend you consult your healthcare professional or pharmacist before taking any Lypo-Spheric™ supplements. We also recommend you consult your healthcare practitioner before taking Lypo-Spheric™ R-ALA if you are taking glucose lowering medication, or receiving treatment for under-active or over-active thyroid.

Can liposomal vitamin c help reduce acne?

    • Felipe Gonzales says:

Hi Jeff, Our products are dietary supplements not intended to treat or cure any medical condition. Vitamin C is well known for having a positive impact on the health and appearance of skin. Free radicals can have a negative impact on the skin and as an antioxidant, Vitamin C is able to protect the cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. Hope that information helps. Thank you.

  8. Sam Wolf says:

Where does the Vitamin C you use come from?

I read that all vitamin C eventually comes from China where it is produced. It may be refined and purified here to meet our standards. Aparently there is a certificate of purity that can be obtained by companies making Vitamin C supplements but how many companies advertise that on their product? I read that Merkola did not provide the certificate when challenged.

The more I learn about vitamin C, the more involved process appears.

    • Felipe Gonzales says:

      Hi Sam,

I reorganized our conversation. Not sure why it went to the GSH room. Just leaving the original answer here.

We purchase high quality raw materials from qualified suppliers all over the world, and we only use the materials that have passed extensive identity, strength, and purity testing.

In addition to testing all of our raw materials, we also use qualified, independent laboratories to test for microbiological contaminants and heavy metals in every batch of finished product. We reject any batch that does not meet our strict standards for purity. We have non-GMO certificates, IP certificates (meaning the source materials are “Identity Preserved” to track the material from seed to sale, to ensure the product is not comingled with GMO product), and our own verification testing confirms the product is high quality, non-GMO sodium ascorbate.

We use vitamin C from China because we feel very confident in the supplier, and the price is cost effective.

You can see one of our certificates here -> http://blog.livonlabs.com/site/wp-content/uploads/Lypo-Spheric-Vitamin-C_CAN-COA-Lot-No.-LCV0915_452-03222016.pdf

  9. Beverly says:

Is there any value of Lypo C if it is expired?

    • Kaili Carpenter says:

We guarantee our LivOn Labs products to be 100% effective up until the
expiration date. We are unsure how effective the products are after the
expiration date, but there is nothing in the product that will harm you if
it is taken after it has expired. We believe that the effectiveness
gradually decreases past the expiration date.

  10. Sandi says:

I heard you can give this to your pets??

    • Kaili Carpenter says:

Hello, Lypo-Spheric products are formulated for humans. But, we do have customers who chose to supplement their pets diet with Vitamin C. As with any new health program, its always a good idea to speak with your pet’s veterinarian.
